Drumline: In the Winter

Winterline is what it's better know as. A national motto or at least one in our school is, "Crap, we have to that today?" “The i-don't-care-meter is as far in the red zone as ever before.”-Lars Ulrich. (i edited out the profanity.)Really it is almost and inside joke in a way. No matter what you hear from anyone drummers are naturally lazy, period. Its almost a requirement. Rudiments and shortcuts make playing easier and easier, but it sounds harder and harder. Now I'm rambling, another foundation of drumming, ADD. Anyways, back to Winterline. It's what we do in off-season in a way. Like footballers who run track to stay in shape for the next season. It's probably the most competitive drumming anyone will ever observe. Even though our line is fledgling, we look toward the future of our competitions. The WGI finals is what we aim for. As Neil Peart once said, "“You don't get something for nothing, You can't have freedom for free, You won't get wise with the sleep still in your eyes, No matter what your dreams might be.” We might be a little small and little on the low end of the amazingness-meter but we still try a lot.

Z, AWESOME that you are a muso. As I 'm sure you proabably already know that both Jamie & Tyler play bass, If you love music in general as we do, Below are listed some noteworthy songs, bands and drummers, maybe you already know this but what the heck, In my opinion,

George Harrison (on his own) My sweet lord, what is life and pretty much all the rest. He had plenty of songs he wrote for the Beatles also.

The Beach Boys, the smartest most brilliant songwriter Brian Wilson,
listen to: In My room & god only knows.

The Who, What more can I say? only the greatest drummer ever. All there songs are way cool.
John Entwistle is the king of bass playing, well next to John Paul Jones.

The Beatles, that is a given.

Led Zeppelin, The greatest guitar playerJimmy Page, John Paul Jones rocks on bass, John Bonham was the great mastermind on drums,
and of course Robert Plant. pretty much the greatest band.

I think you pretty much get the idea. Don't get me wrong we also listen to some Jazz, Country, Old Rap(The Beastie Boys), stuff like James Taylor and Carly Simon and yes even some classical.

The biggest show of the tour, L.A. Coliseum and he’s passing out on his drum throne (obviously from over indulging on his birthday the night before), his roadie and L.A. doctor both spiked his main arteries in both of his legs with adrenaline, he slowly came around, Pete yelled in the microphone “are there any drummers in the house”? After about 5 minutes of bobbing in and out he finally took a big drink of water hopped up and got back to business as if nothing had just took place. A reporter who was in the crowd later asked “don’t you fear that the band will get sick of you and your antics and just get rid of you”? With a matter of fact tone in his voice he smiled and said “they can’t fire me, I’m the best Keith Moon type drummer in world”.

Keith Moon

From the book Full Moon.

Z-My boyfrind plays the drums as well. He is getting really good. Was never in band in school though. What type of music do you play? Do you have a drum set?

J & J-me- Pat LOVES The Who. He thinks of Keith Moon as a god.

first off, Steve Gadd is the top dog of all drumers.

In jazz band at school, we play funk, jazz, latin primarily.

Well, if your going out on a limb, why not T.S. Monk, I know that Jazz Institute he runs must just bore a musician such as your self to tears. You might just learn a thing or two hanging out with Miles, Dizzy or the Count.
